Little Tokyo, a favorite in San Dimas, Ca

Little Tokyo sushi is pretty damn good I have to say. When I am in town this is a favorite place to frequent and you never know, if you visit you may just see me there. In the strip mall on Bonita between Albertsons and CVS in San Dimas, near downtown. Ease of parking, easy to find, easy to get a seat, at least the time we usually go which is early, because dang it when you are hungry you are hungry. Never a fishy smell to the place and let me say if you smell fish run. Fish smell in a sushi place means it is not fresh sushi and when eating fish raw it better be fresh. Grab yourself a table, or a booth or better yet saunter your fanny up to the sushi bar and ask the chef what is the best for the evening and let him amaze you with some special delights. We have done that on occasion and I do have to say, the most favorite and memorable of just how delicious trying new sushi concoctions can be was at my boyfriends birthday. We enjoyed the big glass shell filled with all kinds of different sashimi that night, each and every time going OMG this is my favorite, but tonight we are not alone and it is much easier to grab a booth to chat with our family.

So it may be almost 100 outside lately, but I definitely want some hot Saki to sip on for the evening, along with a small Kirin, perfect combination I do have to say. A little hot, and some nice ice cold, but the little tiny glass I get with the Kirin cracks me up every time. Drinks are here and we are nibbling on some edamame, looking at the menu finding what is going to be written down on the sushi sheet for tonight.  Ok yes, I am a wimp and always order my rolls with soy paper, lol.  I can do seaweed but prefer the soy paper over the ocean taste of seaweed. Just my personal choice and is available for anyone out there that is like me. Sashimi of course is raw sliced fish, not rolled and not served with rice. Sushi is fish maybe raw, maybe not, with vinegared rice, then rolls are mixed with other ingredients. Tonight we are all pretty hungry so it is substantial ingredients we are looking for, so sushi it is, even some chicken teriyaki and tempura vegetables. Who says sushi night isn’t fattening? Not us, at least not tonight for sure. California rolls, Salmon, spicy tuna crunch, yellow-tail and a tuna hand roll are delivered and silence falls on the table. Mix in a bit of wasabi in the soy sauce for some extra heat, throw on a thinly sliced piece of fresh ginger and my mouth is popping with goodness.  So I have been told that the ginger is actually there to clean your pallet between dishes, whether this is true or not, I haven’t investigated because right now I really don’t care. I love having that slice on top of my sushi and even sashimi.

My phone makes a noise and my daughter is texting me to bring an order of Mexican roll home for her, so one more order goes in along with a mix of mochi ice cream flavors. Mochi ice cream is ice cream wrapped in thin Japanese rice cake with flavors like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and green tea. Bellies full, bill paid and we are on our way happy as can be. Thanks again Little Tokyo until next time.
