Sorry haven’t posted for a bit, had been camping in the high sierras and no reception up there at 9700 feet. Do have to say was awesome to unplug and unwind and yes was true tent camping, roughing it. Well roughing it as much as I am going to with some good food of course and some cocktails and lots of fishing. So of course the bet was first catch the other person has to cook dinner. I happened to be the lucky one this year and got a nice size trout on the line first so I got to relax and enjoy the camp fire while my boyfriend did what he does best and cook me trout. Can’t get any fresher than that or healthier. A little olive oil spray, some fresh herbs with some salt and pepper and lemon, dipped in a creamy sour cream dill sauce that was store bought and we brought with us. Can I say yummy. Watch out for those bones though , lol.
When we pulled up and got our spot, which you have to be pretty lucky, its first come, first serve. But we were and was told this is the best site in all of sierra nevada. nice and private and by a rushing stream and apparently there was a bear running around that was not shy about coming into camp, so please, please keep your food in the bear boxes. I was a little freaked out, I mean what would be between us and the bear but a thin piece of tent fabric. Holy crap! My boyfriend was kind of excited to see it. Men!
We had all kinds of different weather. From wind, to cold, to warm sunny day, a little rain, woke up to thunder and lightning the first morning and cooked dinner and sat around the camp fire with a little hail the second night. Got to love camping, the fresh air, beautiful surroundings and cooking by propane stove or over the open camp fire. So what was on the menu, you ask? Well ask any of my friends that have gone camping with me and they will all tell you, we do not starve. Hell I even brought a $300 bottle of wine to eat with our ribs one time. Now that is living.
Besides the fresh trout, we dined on tri tip steak and fresh green salad. Burgers of course, with guacamole, lettuce, cheddar cheese. Left over burgers for breakfast with added thick cut bacon and eggs one morning. Can you say the entire area smelled so good with that bacon cooking I am surprised the bear didn’t roll up and sit himself down at the fire with us. Ribs and corn on the cob, which we never got to as apparently being that high of altitude makes you not so hungry after all, so we skipped dinner one night and just played some cards. The stars were plenty, so amazing I could of stared at them all night, but was very cold so sleeping bag was calling our name.
Went into Bishop after visiting the Owens river for a little fishing and yes I caught a bass of all things, but was too windy that day to stay fishing there long, so headed to our favorite bar, Rusty’s for a cold one. Traveled up to Mammoth as well looking for other spots to fish, but ended up at Mammoth brew pub for a fresh beverage and a bathroom, lol. Lots of activity in that town with the margarita festival going on and all the biking enthusiasts. I can see the appeal of living there. I even ran into my cousin crossing the street. That was a welcome surprise. Sad to say it is back to reality though, but have to say, love, love being in a comfy bed once again. Oh and having a bathroom close by. And nope, never did see that bear, but saved a ladies life from a coyote. Yup sure did, racked some points up for myself on that one, lol. Actually just said ummm, you know there is a coyote behind you right? She went back into her tent hahaa. Hope everyone has a chance to get out and unplug and unwind a little themselves and have some amazing camp food. Nothing tastes so good when you are out there roughing it.
